Shenzhen is a coastal city in southern China, adjacent to Hong Kong. It is located south of the Tropic of Cancer, 113°46′ to 114°37′ east longitude, 22°27′ to 22°52′ north latitude. It is located in the southern part of Guangdong Province, on the east bank of the Pearl River Estuary, bordering Daya Bay and Dapeng Bay to the east; the Pearl River Estuary and Lingdingyang to the west; the Shenzhen River to the south is connected to Hong Kong; and the north borders the cities of Dongguan and Huizhou. The vast sea area connects the South China Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
Shenzhen has a subtropical monsoon climate, with long summers and short winters, mild climate, abundant sunshine and abundant rainfall. The annual average temperature is 23.3℃, the historical extreme maximum temperature is 38.7℃, and the historical extreme minimum temperature is 0.2℃; the average temperature in January is the lowest, averaging 15.7℃, and the average temperature in July is the highest, averaging 29.0℃; the annual average sunshine hours are 1853.0 hours; the annual average precipitation is 1932.9 mm, and 86% of the annual rainfall occurs during the flood season (April to September). The weather in spring is changeable, often with "warm and cold" weather, and the prevailing wind is easterly; the summer lasts for more than 6 months (the average summer is 202 days long), the prevailing wind is southerly, and it is hot and rainy; the northeast monsoon prevails in autumn and winter, and the weather is dry and rainy.
Shenzhen is rich in climate resources, and its solar energy resources, heat resources, and precipitation resources are all among the highest in the province. However, it is also an area prone to disastrous weather. In spring, there are often low temperatures, rainy days, severe convection, spring droughts, etc., and cold waves may occur in a few years. In summer, under the influence of weather systems such as frontal troughs, tropical cyclones, and monsoon clouds, heavy rains, thunderstorms, and typhoons are frequent. Autumn is mostly sunny and cool, making it the best season for tourism and vacation. However, due to the lack of rain and high evaporation, autumn droughts often occur, and in some years there are typhoons and cold waves. In winter, there is little rain, and most years will experience consecutive droughts in autumn and winter. Cold waves and low temperatures and frost are also the main disastrous weather in this season.
