In China, short-distance drone delivery has officially entered the commercial stage. For example, Meituan has begun to try to use drones for food delivery.
According to the WeChat official account of "Meituan Drone", the Meituan drone Futian Port route has officially started in October 2024. This is China's first regular drone delivery route located in the port area.
After the route is opened, citizens who travel between Hong Kong and Shenzhen every day can enjoy the "airdrop" service when ordering takeout near the port. After placing an order, they can pick up the goods at the landing point as fast as 10 minutes.
Meituan drones took off from Shenzhen Futian Galaxy COCO Park. Stores such as KFC, Bawang Cha Ji, Heytea, and Xue Ji Chaohuo in the mall have been connected to drone delivery.
In addition, Meituan drones have reached a cooperation with WeChat Hong Kong Dollar Wallet (WeChat Pay HK). The route supports remote ordering and Hong Kong dollar payment. On the way north from Hong Kong, the delivery address can be modified before arriving in Shenzhen. After arriving in Shenzhen, tourists can find the airdrop cabinet 50 meters west of Gate 2 in front of Futian Port Square (next to Police Station E).
